Hendrik Tiemie, born and raised in Calitzdorp, well known wire artist from South Africa. At age 32, Hendrik started by making wired grills. Determined in making his work unique, he dedicated himself to his art.
He started by doing a variety of pieces, mostly household items. All of the pieces are 100% handmade and versatile. His master pieces was 3 chandeliers, working together with international artists for a project in George. His work was advertised in the Eden Tourism arts and craft book and featured on national television, the Mooiloop programme, as well as in articles in papers like Die Burger, Die Son, Die Beeld and the George Harold.
He combines his many other materials with his wire art. His favourite items are with copper. Hendrik never attended any art school but is proud to say that he made name for himself locally and nationally from selling his work in the streets of Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn.
Hendrik also had a 30 day exhibition together with renowned artist of Calitzdorp, Marinda Combrinck in 2018. He was also recognised by TV program Mooiloop as an equal to any other African Art artist. Hendrik and Apolis Beginsel also had international exposure on the American program Open –Africa on CNN together with other well-known artist of Calitzdorp, Hilton Nel and Marinda Combrinck.
